Artist statement

My work begins with a lifelong instinct toward visual storytelling. My earliest experiences as an artist began with drawing - creating characters and scenes as a way of understanding the world around me. That impulse to observe, interpret, and translate emotion into image eventually led me to pursue a degree in Fine Arts, where I deepened my relationship with image-making and chose to study analogue film in an increasingly digital age.Working with film shaped not only my technical approach, but my way of seeing. It taught me patience, intention, and a heightened sensitivity to light - an awareness that continues to guide my photography today. There is a quiet discipline in analogue practice, a trust in the moment, that I carry into all of my work. Cinema and the language of visual art continue to shape how I see and compose. Atmosphere, composition, and subtle detail are central to my process. Based on the West Coast, with roots in the prairies, I'm continually shaped by both landscapes. The vast openness of Manitoba and the layered textures of the Pacific Northwest each inform how I see and frame the world. I seek out images that feel contemplative and enduring - photographs that invite pause.Photography, for me, is not only about capturing what is seen, but about honouring what is felt. It's an ongoing practice of attention, memory, and quiet observation.
